Marilli Mastrantoni / ENTROPIA Ensemble present the Performance ”How a Place becomes a Person…” between 17th and 20th of June 2021 at COMMUNITISM Cultural Centre (Terrace) in Athens.
Marilli Mastrantoni and her collaborators utilize the tools of documentary and devised theatre, creating a show that seeks to examine the “place” where people and their stories intersect, as well as the relationship between the subjective view and the collective perception of history.
The material that emerged from the Co-creation Workshops, where refugees, immigrants, artists and Athenian citizens jointly participated, enriched by a plethora of texts (documents, historical and literary texts, scientific research, anthropological studies, etc.), as well as by kinesiological and audiovisual elements, compose the performance’s dramaturgy.
“How a Place Becomes a Person…” attempts to become the vehicle for exchanges and memory transfer. Tο create ruptures and unfamiliarity versus stereotypical representations. To destabilize the norms regarding the migration issue and to highlight the socio-political components behind the events and beyond the “personal narratives”.
With the audience’s participation and interaction with the performers, the aim is to achieve a channel of communication and to construct “bridges of intimacy” with what is considered distant and different. In this perspective, the performance tries with playfulness, humor, and occasionally with irony, to form a decentralized community and to present the Western Civilisation through the eyes of those who experience it under conditions of forced expatriation.
